The Burgas University "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" (BU) is an established state-owned, multidisciplinary higher education institution that plays a key role in the development of the academic, scientific, and cultural potential of Southeast Bulgaria. Its strategic location on the Black Sea coast provides a unique operational environment for interdisciplinary research and close collaboration with industry and the public sector.

The University is the successor of strong academic traditions, with its core being the Higher Institute of Chemical Technology (HICТ) – Burgas, founded in 1963. This institute laid the foundations for the preparation of high-technology personnel necessary for the development of regional industry.

Over the years, in response to national needs and European trends, the University’s structure expanded to become multidisciplinary. The transition to the Burgas University was finalized in the 1990s, subsequently receiving its current name in honor of Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov – a distinguished Bulgarian scientist and public figure. Today, BU represents an integrated structure of faculties encompassing both fundamental and applied sciences.

The University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" (UR) is one of the key higher education institutions in Northern Bulgaria, located in the city of Ruse. The University is named after the Bulgarian national hero, Angel Kanchev.

Its history is long and spans several stages of development. It originated from the traditions of pedagogical education in the city, which date back more than 130 years. Subsequently, various technical and higher education colleges merged. It was officially established as the University of Ruse in 1998.

Today, UR is a multidisciplinary university offering high-quality education at Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels. While it is particularly strong in technical and engineering specialties, it also actively develops programs in economics, agricultural sciences, pedagogy, and social sciences. The University is deeply committed to research and development, striving to meet contemporary challenges and prepare highly qualified specialists for Bulgaria and the European Union.
